This library is designed to celebrate its context, framing views of the nearby river, historic architecture, and churches from each floor. The form and organization maximize these perspectives, creating a strong connection between the building, its setting, and the visitor’s experience.
The ground floor houses the main library, offering a quiet and sheltered space for reading and study. The second floor contains a lecture hall, designed to accommodate educational events and presentations. At the top, a café provides a comfortable spot for relaxation and reflection, with extensive views of the river and the surrounding cityscape, making it an ideal place for after-lecture work or social gatherings. This project merges contemporary design with Cambridge’s rich architectural heritage, creating a setting where past and present come together in a unified expression.
